Tracer ammo, the bullet has a hollow base which is filled with a pyrotechnic material.  The flammable material ignites shortly after the bullet leaves the barrel and this give a visual of the bullets path.  This gives you the ability to confirm the bullets path and see the impact without looking through a scope. The pistol caliber tracers are visible to approximately 150 yards.
